Tom Afton has been a conference interpreter since 1987. A graduate of ESIT (École Supérieure d’Interprètes et de Traducteurs–Université de Paris III), Tom has taught at ESIT, ISIT (Institut Catholique de Paris), GIIT (Shanghai International Studies University), the Cambridge Conference Interpretation Course, and elsewhere; he also served as Academic Director at GSIT (University of Maryland, College Park).

Tom is presently a freelance conference interpreter (EN – A FR – B DE/ES/IT – C) based in Paris, working mainly for international organizations, and has also worked as a staff interpreter and as Head of Language and Conference Services at OECD (Paris).

Tom is a member of AIIC.

Amanda is a freelance English / French interpreter with 22 years experience working for international organisations in the fields of Politics, Finance, Health and Development. Her speciality is Consecutive Interpreting, particularly in the Diplomatic sphere.

She has interpreted for many high profile clients, including Heads of State and Government. She is a member of AIIC and has a Masters in Advanced Interpreter Training (MAS) from the University of Geneva.

Amanda began learning French after school as an exchange student in Belgium and then went on to study French and Philosophy at the University of Johannesburg before receiving a scholarship from the French government to train as an interpreter at the E.S.I.T. in Paris.

She has taught Translation at the University of Johannesburg and has also trained future interpreter trainers at the University of Geneva, provided training to AIIC colleagues in Africa, and guest lectured at the University of Hong Kong.

Gillian (EN A, FR B) is a graduate of the University of Ottawa MCI (2007) and the University of Geneva Masters of Advanced Studies in Interpreter Training (2017).

A staff interpreter with the Parliament of Canada since 2007, she has provided in-house training since 2011 and has taught at the University of Ottawa MCI since 2017.

In 2019 she was recruited as a trainer for the University of Geneva Masters of Advanced Studies in Interpreter Training.

Gillian became an AIIC member in 2013 and continues to enrol in skills upgrading and training of trainers courses as her schedule permits.

Mirna is a freelance conference interpreter (PT A, EN B, ES C) based in Washington, DC. She works primarily with international organizations, but has also worked with the private sector, think tanks, NGOs, research institutes, and universities for over two decades.

She holds a Masters in Language Studies from PUC-Rio de Janeiro and a Masters of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Interpreter Training from the University of Geneva.

Mirna has taught translation courses at the University of Maryland Graduate Studies in Interpreting and Translation program and trained interpreters in Brazil and the United States.

In 2021 she was recruited as a trainer for the University of Geneva MAS in Interpreter Training. Mirna is a member of AIIC and of the American Translators Association (ATA).

Since 1989, Hilda (ES A, EN B) has worked as a conference interpreter and translator, amassing a wealth of experience in the financial, economic, political, legal, environmental and human rights fields. Based in Mexico City, she is a graduate of the University of Geneva Masters of Advanced Studies in Interpreter Training.

Hilda is a member of AIIC, where she actively participates in the Sign Language Network and the Training and Professional Development Group. Since 2000, she has been a university professor, trainer and course and curriculum designer in Mexico and abroad for both spoken and sign language interpreter training programs. She is currently an Adjunct Instructor of Simultaneous Interpreting at the University of Massachusetts Amherst Online Professional Translation & Interpreting program, and Adjunct Professor of Interpreting Studies at Mexico’s UNAM.
